Made for memories

Words by Rosie Cattrell

Sometimes, what we want from a holiday is simply the chance to slow down, step back and take in our beautiful surroundings. Cornwall is a haven for moments like this, and the little town of Bude especially so. When it comes to memory making, you needn’t look too far from here to find the perfect place to feel like one of the locals, and the five-star Wooda Farm Holiday Park offers the warmest of welcomes to each and every guest, all year round.

Farm-come-holiday park since 1975, it’s long been Wooda’s mission to make each guest feel as at home as possible, inviting each visitor to immerse themselves in the relaxed, slow pace of the Cornish lifestyle and live life like a local. There is a refreshing motivation here to look away from the devices we spend so much time attached to, not to mention the stresses that can come with them, and step into the natural world that thrives here in Cornwall to make new memories with the ones we love most.

“Here at Wooda, we pride ourselves on being a family-run holiday park. Because of this, we are able to create a unique experience for our guests,” explains Charlotte Veale, owner of Wooda. “We are proud to be able to offer Cornish holidays that are provided by Cornish people with the county’s best interests at heart, and have been welcoming visitors to our fabulous family-owned farm since 1975.” The team’s five-star ethos has also won them an impressive collection of accolades, including being Best of British members, Premier Parks members, ACSI Best UK Campsite and a TripAdvisor certificate of excellence.

Amongst the many things that Wooda is renowned for, perhaps one of the most important is the incredible ability to cater for pretty much everyone. From touring and camping pitches to holiday homes, luxury lodges and Cornish cottages, there is truly something for all, which Charlotte happily indulges us in: “The touring and camping side of things is close to our hearts, as this is one of the first outlets we ventured into when opening the farm up to the public. The pitches themselves offer spectacular sea and countryside views and all the five-star facilities you could wish for, including our newly renovated multi-million-pound toilet and shower block! We are extremely proud to have been voted the UK’s Best Campsite 2023 by ACSI, as well as upholding many other awards and accolades.”

With a collection of over 50 holiday homes, you’ll find each one beautifully decorated and catering to a range of budgets, with dog-friendly options too. Sleeping between four and six people, with open-plan living spaces and the opportunity for a balcony from which to enjoy the sea view, these homes work particularly well for couples or young families, as Charlotte explains: “We hope we have demonstrated that a caravan holiday can offer all the luxury and home comfort you could wish for, moving away from the preconceptions some people may have about a holiday-park getaway! Gone are the days of sub-standard holidays in static caravans on lacklustre parks, as we welcome a new age of luxury holiday homing with five-star facilities set against the backdrop of some of the most stunning scenery in the UK.”

The nine luxurious eco lodges on site are aptly named Gwelva Hills (Gwelva meaning ‘viewpoint’ in Cornish), and it’s certainly easy enough to see why. Perched on the top corner of the park, beautiful sweeping views out across Bude Bay set the scene through the floor-to-ceiling windows in the open-plan living area of each lodge, a stunning backdrop to a perfect getaway. Sleeping four to six people, and with dog-friendly options, the lodges remain open all year round, unlike the seasonal options of the campsite and holiday homes.

Finally, three enchanting self-catering cottages complete Wooda’s accommodation collection. Each enjoying the holiday park’s facilities, Tregea and Brambles sleep ten and seven respectively, just perfect for family gatherings, whereas Pebbles, located in the traditional Cornish town of Bude itself and within walking distance to the beach, sleeps four and would make for an idyllic home from home for a couple or small family.

Passionate about providing the best five-star facilities possible, naturally the team at Wooda are constantly reinvesting and updating their offering to ensure that each time their guests return, there’s always something new to look forward to. “We are lucky enough to have a large community of guests that return to us year on year (some of them have been visiting since we first opened in 1975),” Charlotte continues, “which we think is testament to the fact that we hold a special place in people’s hearts, ensuring that we provide the warmest of welcomes from a guest’s first stay, to their hundredth!”

When it comes to camping, you’ll find everything you could possibly need to enjoy your time away with your tent or caravan; from a superb, newly renovated toilet and shower block and the option to hire private en-suite bathroom pods, to free Wi-Fi across the site, launderettes and camper’s kitchens to name but a few. For any of those little necessities that make your stay a little more luxurious, why not visit the on-site farm shop, stocked with all your essentials, plus a heap load of Cornish treats too? There is also the gorgeous Elsie and Rose gift shop and Sue Read’s art studio where you can pick up a piece of Cornwall for your very own.

Other facilities at the disposal of all guests include the fantastic on-site eateries, takeaway and bars, including the Loft Cocktail Bar, specialising in Cornish spirits, not to mention a great selection of family-friendly activities on site too. From Segway tours and archery during the summer holidays to tractor rides, a badminton court, tennis court, pitch ‘n’ putt, wellness barn, gym, woodland cycle trail, farm animals, games rooms, nature walk and a whole lot more, there’s always something to get you out and about, away from screens and making memories together.

From romantic breaks for two to dog-friendly stays, child-friendly summer holidays, family gatherings and everything in between, you can rest assured that Wooda extends the warmest welcome to all, for a Cornish escape made for memories to last a lifetime.
