The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race is one of the world’s definitive tests for those yearning to transcend the ordinary and embrace the extraordinary. In February 2025, the Clipper Race team visited Fowey, Cornwall, bringing with them one of their formidable yachts. This event allowed locals to step aboard, grasp the helm, and envisage the exhilarating life of an ocean racer. Chris Harris, Recruitment Director and former Race Crew member, shared insights into the race’s demands and rewards, igniting the adventurous spirit of many attendees.
As the late summer 2025 start of the Clipper 2025-26 Race approaches, the call for new crew members intensifies. Remarkably, no prior sailing experience is required; the race provides intensive training to prepare participants for the challenges ahead. Divided into eight legs and encompassing up to 16 individual races, the journey includes six ocean crossings, testing endurance and resilience against nature’s fiercest elements.
Ella Nieper, a participant in the 2023-24 edition, reflected on her transformative experience: “Stepping on board before signing up gives you a clear idea of what the race will be like... Seeing the boat for the first time gave me the confidence to think, I can do this.”
